My mission...
...is to travel from coast to coast,
north to south across the USA and Canada!
So far I've been to 42 of the 48 states on the US mainland, from Seattle to Key West, from Maine to San Diego, from Pike's Peak to Empire State Building!

My favorite state will always be Colorado because of the majestic mountains and exciting scenery.

Hope you will like my travelogues! Please enjoy!

Here is a map of my travels in the USA       Here are some facts about USA and the 50 states!

  • 1988 - USA from coast to coast, part I & part II
3 weeks. Starting in New York City and staying a few days on Long Island, a weekend in Washington DC, make a jump to the Rocky Mountains in Colorado where we visited relatives in Boulder and Colorado Springs. The next flight took us to the Bay Area where we drove across the Golden Gate and ended up in the San Joaquin Valley.
Everything was new and exciting! I will always remember this trip: From the top of the World in World Trade Center to the Golden Gate almost lost in the fog. It was unbelieveable for a newbie in America!
  • 1989 - Northeast/New England
4 weeks starting in Boston, driving trough Maine, Vermont & New Hampshire before we headed west to Niagara Falls. Crossing the state of New York and Pennsylvania into Maryland and Washington DC. Down to Norfolk and over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel. Up trough Delaware, New Jersey, New York City and finally back to Boston, Massachusets. Visited penpals in Virginia and Long Island. Got to see several great concerts in Massachusets
  • 1994 - The Rockies, The Pacific Northwest and then driving across the country to Minnesota
3 weeks. Flying into Denver, Colorado, visiting relatives in Colorado Springs. Driving from Denver to Seattle across Nebraska, Wyoming, Utah, Idaho, Oregon and Washington. On the way west we stopped at Mount Rushmore, Salt Lake City and at the Golden Spike National Historic Site in northern Utah where the east and west met in 1869 driving the final spike into the transcontinental railroad.
Spent a week visiting many relatives in the Seattle area, then drove down to Eugene, Oregon for some more relatives before we started the long drive east towards Bemidji, Minnesota crossing the endless plains of Montana and North Dakota. The last leg took us to The Twin Cities and Mall of America before we climbed aboard the flight home.
  • 1995 - Colorado & the Southwest, part I & part II
2 weeks. Flying into Denver, Colorado in late september. Two days later we were driving through a blizzard in the Foothills of the Rockies. We continued south to Pueblo and turned west to Garden City, Kansas where we continued straight south to the "panhandle" of Oklahoma and Texas. From there we continued southwest to Tumcumcari, New Mexico where we discovered the old Route 66.
By now the weather was much better and we tried to follow the "Mother Road" wherever we could on our way west. We made a stop in Santa Fe, passed Albuquerque and into Arizona. We walked on the south rim of the Grand Canyon, drove across the Hoover dam and through Las Vegas. Then we met up with the rest of our travelling mates in LA and spent the second week driving around in California from San Diego to San Francisco and up the Feather River Valley.
  • 1996 - Bahamas and Florida
3 weeks. Flying to Miami, make a change to a small plane headed for Nassau, Bahamas. After just three days we went back to Miami and drove around Florida for the remainder of our vacation.
Key West was great. A fantastic journey across all those small islands. Alligator Alley to Naples. North to Tampa/St. Petersburg. A week in Orlando doing all the must see parks. Took a look at the space center at Cape Canaveral. Then followed the east coast through Palm Beach and Ft. Lauderdale back to Miami.
  • 1997 - Colorado and the Southeast
3 weeks. Once again we started in Denver. Drove up into the Rockies across several mountain passes to Glenwood Springs. Made it across Tennessee Pass at 10,424 ft, walked across the Royal Gorge bridge and back to Denver.
Flew to Atlanta, Georgia and drove east to Savannah and north to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina where we spent a wonderful week. Continued into North Carolina passing through Charlotte before we ended up in Asheville. Drove along the Blue Ridge Parkway and through the Great Smoky Mountains and into Tennessee. A nice cruise on the Tennessee River in Chattanooga before we drove back to Atlanta.
  • 1998 - Boston - Milwaukee and back
2 weeks. Flying to Boston. Driving west through Albany, Buffalo, Cleveland. South to Dayton, Ohio. Northwest to Chicago and Milwaukee. Spending several days visiting friends from Kalmbach Publishing and every hobby shop in town.
Back to Chicago, east to Ft. Wayne, Indiana and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. A short trek down to Cumberland, Maryland before we went north through Altoona and up to Scranton. Continuing east to New Jersey and after visiting Tony Koester and his Allegheny Midland, we continued on the north side of NYC into Connecticut and back to Boston.
  • 1999 - Southeast
3 1/2 weeks. Starting in Atlanta, Georgia. Drive to Colombia, South Carolina and on to Myrtle Beach. We rented a condo for two weeks and a great time once again in MB.
We continued north to Wilmington and Greenville, North Carolina. Then as far east as we could get at Kill Devil Hills in the Outer Banks area. We drove to Cape Hatteras and saw the Wright Brothers Memorial. We entered Virginia and Norfolk and drove west across Virginia to Lynchburg and Roanoke. Then we headed north along the Blue Ridge Parkway and Shenandoah Valley before we ended up in Washington DC were we visited a friend.
  • 2000 - Four Corners, part I & part II
3 weeks. Starting in Denver, visiting a friend in Colorado Springs. West into southern Colorado to Hot Springs and Durango. Mesa Verde National Park and the Four Corners site. Continuing into Arizona and across the Glen Canyon Dam and into Utah. Visited Zion National Park before we drove south to a very snowy and foggy Grand Canyon. We almost didn't see anything.
We drove through Flagstaff, Phoenix and Tucson before we entered New Mexico. We spent a few days in El Paso Texas and took a bus ride into Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. Further east into Texas before we once again entered New Mexico and Carlsbad Caverns National Park. Visited the UFO-museum at Roswell, took a look at Albuquerque and Santa Fe before we drove across Raton Pass into Colorado. One more night in Colorado Springs and back home.
  • 2001 - Northeast
2 weeks. Starting in Baltimore, Maryland. Walked the Mall in Washington DC. East across the Chesapeake Bay and down the peninsula where we once again crossed the Chesapeake Bay. Took a look at Virginia Beach and Norfolk.
Up north to Pennsylvania were we camped for a few days in Lancaster in the middle of the Amish country. East to Philadelphia and Atlantic City, New Jersey. Took a train ride to New York City and visited Empire State Building and the Statue of Liberty. Then back to Baltimore.
  • 2006 - The Black Diamond Tour
2 weeks. Starting in Newark, New Jersey. West to Altoona and Horseshoe Curve in Pennsylvania. Then back east to Philadelphia and the NMRA convention.
Southwest to Cumberland, Maryland. Continue further south to Charleston, West Virgina. East to Roanoke and Norfolk, Virginia. Back north to Newark.
